DENVER - Utah Valley's Tyson Lambert and Grand Canyon's Scott Marshall have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 6-12.
Lambert, a junior from Grantsville, Utah placed first in the 3000m at the Mountain State Games. His time of 8:22.61 is the fastest in the WAC. He also took third place in the 5000m with a personal best time of 14:33.88, also ranking first in the WAC.
Marshall, a redshirt junior from Tempe, Ariz., finished 6th of 28 in the pole vault at the Don Kirby Invitational. He cleared 5.20m, second in the WAC only to his own top mark. Marshall is currently ranked 17th in the nation in the pole vault.
Other track nominees: Grand Canyon's Marcus Flannigan set a new top WAC time in the 200m at the Don Kirby Invitational… UTRGV's Ricardo Mendoza finished eighth in the mile at the Cowboy Classic I… Seattle U's Chay Weaver set a new PR in the 3000m at the Husky Classic to rank third in the WAC… UMKC's Justin Martin set new PRs in the 60m and 200m at the Gorilla Classic.
Other field nominees: UTRGV's Antonio Salas set a career best in the shot put at the Cowboy Classic II to rank second in the WAC… UMKC's Lukas van der Watt set a school record in the pole vault at the Gorilla Classic to rank second in the WAC… Utah Valley's McKay Burnett set a new PR in the weight throw at the Mountain State Games to rank first in the WAC.
