DENVER - The Western Athletic Conference has announced that Paul Scott has been hired as Coordinator of Soccer Officials.

Scott currently serves as the referee coordinator for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, as well as Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Manager of Refereeing and National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) Director of Officials. In addition, he is an assessor for the Professional Referee Organization (PRO) and US Soccer National Instructor.

"We are thrilled to welcome someone of Paul's caliber and experience to advance the men's and women's soccer officiating program in the Western Athletic Conference,” said WAC commissioner Jeff Hurd. “He is a seasoned pro bringing nearly 40 years of extraordinary experiences refereeing in collegiate and professional matches. His credibility and positive relationships he has built will be a great asset to advancing the men's and women's soccer officiating programs in the conference."

On the field, he was named 2014 Major League Soccer (MLS) Assistant Referee of the Year and also worked both the 2013 MLS All-Star match and the 2013 MLS Cup. During his MLS career, he officiated over 200 matches. Scott also has extensive collegiate experience, having worked championship matches at the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NAIA levels. Earlier this month he was inducted into the Oklahoma Soccer Hall of Fame.

“I am excited to have this new challenge and feel quite fortunate to be selected for this position. Moreover, I look forward to partnering with the WAC coaches as we continue to enhance the development of referees,” said Scott. “As tactics, technique, and physicality continues to evolve in soccer, I see a need to better prepare the referees and help them adapt to the modern game. The WAC has a very competitive soccer program, with a rich and unique history. I am enthusiastic about the growth this opportunity brings, as I attempt to add to the already established legacy.”

Scott is a graduate of Langston University, where he earned his bachelor or liberal arts in psychology.
