DENVER - UMKC's Remy Abrought and Grand Canyon's Tarasue Barnett have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 13-20.
Abrought, a graduate student from Kansas City, MO., finished second in the 60m hurdles at the Nebraska Tune-Up with a season best time of 8.53 seconds. Her time ranks first in the WAC and moved her into the top-five all-time in UMKC program history in just her first season as a Roo.
Barnett, a junior from Kingston, Jamaica, placed fourth in the shot put (14.91m) and sixth in the weight throw (18.20m) at the NAU Tune Up. Her mark in the shot put ranks first in the WAC and set a new GCU record. Already ranking first in the conference, her mark in the weight throw would rank second in the WAC.
Other field nominees: UMKC's Jayla Riggins placed fourth in the long jump at the Nebraska Tune-Up, clearing 5.28m to mark a personal and season best.
