WAC Announces Indoor Track and Field Pre-Championship Coaches Poll

DENVER - The Western Athletic C­onference announced its men's and women's indoor track and field Pre-Championship Coaches Polls, as voted on by the eight head coaches in the league. Grand Canyon was selected as the favorite to win both the men's and women's championship for the second year in a row.

On the men's side, Grand Canyon was picked as the favorite with five first place votes and 25 points overall. UMKC received second place with 20 points and one first place vote. Right behind the Roos is Utah Valley with 18 points, followed by UTRGV with 12 points. The fifth spot goes to Seattle U with 10 points, and Chicago State rounds out the men's poll with 5 points.

Grand Canyon was also picked as the favorite on the women's side. The Lopes received six first place votes and 48 points overall. In second is Utah Valley with 42 points and one first place vote. UMKC with 39 points received third place, followed by New Mexico State with 29 points. There is a tie for fifth spot at 23 points between Seattle U and UTRGV. The seventh spot goes to CSU Bakersfield with 12 points, and Chicago State rounds out the women's poll with 8 points.

The 2017 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field championships will take place at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho this Thursday-Saturday, February 23-25.
