GRAND CANYON'S MOBLEY NAMED WAC WOMENâ€S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Grand Canyon's Brie Mobley has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 13 through Feb. 19.
Mobley, a junior guard from Winter Haven, Fla. (Winter Haven HS), was instrumental in a pair of GCU wins. On Thursday, she scored 31 points with nine rebounds as the Lopes handed Seattle U just their second WAC loss of the season. She followed that up with 10 points and seven rebounds in a 60-42 win over Utah Valley on Saturday afternoon. She finished the week shooting 15-for-25 from the field and a perfect 11-for-11 on free throws.
Other nominees included: CSU Bakersfield's Jazmyne Bartee averaged 10.5 rpg and 5.5 bpg in a home split with Utah Valley and Seattle U … Chicago State's Kaylee Allen scored a team-high 15 points in a loss at UMKC … UMKC's Kristen Moore had 12 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Chicago State … NM State's Brooke Salas recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds in a win over UTRGV … Seattle U's Alexis Montgomery averaged 18.5 ppg and 7.0 rpg as the Redhawks split a pair on the road … UT Rio Grande Valley's Shawnte' Goff scored 18 points to lead the Vaqueros in a loss at league-leading NM State.

It's an important week as the regular season has just three games remaining for each team. NM State currently sits atop the standings and the Aggies can clinch a third-straight regular season title with a combination of two NMSU wins and Seattle U losses. Coincidentatly, the Redhawks host the Aggies on Saturday afternoon in Seattle. NM State also visits Utah Valley while UT Rio Grande Valley will also be in Seattle this week. Grand Canyon and CSU Bakersfield hit the road to take on UMKC and Chicago State.

Conference leader NM State leads the WAC in scoring offense (70.4), scoring defense (59.2), scoring margin (+11.2), field goal percentage (.419), three-point field goal percenatge (.349), three-point defense (.282), rebounding margin (+2.9) and turnover margin (+3.96). Grand Canyon is top in free throw percentage (.722), assists (14.5) and assist/turnover ratio (1.0). UT Rio Grande Valley is the league leader in field goal defense (.367), rebounding offense (40.2), steals (9.9), offensive rebounds (14.3) and defensive rebounds (25.9). UMKC is the WAC leader in rebounding defense (32.6) while CSU Bakersfield is tops in blocked shots (5.6) and three-pointers made (7.4).
Individually, GCU's Marina Laramie leads the WAC in scoring (19.9) while Utah Valley's Sam Lubcke is the top rebounder (8.6). CSU Bakersfield's Jazmyne Bartee is the top shooter (.583) and shot blocker (2.6). NM State's Brooke Salas is the top free throw shooter (.848) while teammate Moriah Mack is the top three-point shooter (.448). Utah Valley's Mariah Seals leads the WAC in assists (5.0) and fellow Wolverine Taylor Gordon is tops in steals (2.8). Seattle U's Kaylee Best is averaging a WAC-best 2.6 three-pointers per game while GCU's Laura Marcos-Canedo holds the top assist/turnover ratio at 1.9.
In conference-only play, NM State leads the way in scoring offense (72.4), scoring margin (+14.4), three-point field goal percentage (.376), rebounding margin (+5.2), turnover margin (+3.45) and three-pointers per game (7.8). CSU Bakersfield holds the top scoring defense (54.1), field goal defense (.313), blocked shots (6.5) and defensive rebounds (27.0). Grand Canyon is the top free throw shooting team (.792) and also leads in steals (8.7). Second-place Seattle U leads the league in field goal percentage (.454), three-point defense (.297), assists (15.7) and assist/turnover ratio (1.1). UT Rio Grande Valley is the top offensive rebounding team (15.3).
Individually, GCU's Laramie leads the scoring list with 19.4 ppg. CSUB's Bartee and UVU's Lubcke share the rebounding lead (10.0). SU's Jacinta Beckley is atop the field goal percentage list (.553). UVU's Seals leads the league in assists while NMSU's Mack leads in steals (2.6). NMSU's Salas is the top free throw shooter (.900) while CSUB's Kate Tokuhara holds the top three-point percentage (.611).
DON'T TAKE ME OUT
Chicago State's Cailin Nix has played 427 of 445 possible minutes for the Cougars in conference play. Her teammate Jessica Cerda has played 409 minutes for CSU in conference play.
WAC TOP 10
UT Rio Grande Valley senior Shawnte' Goff moved into the WAC top 10 scoring list and currently sits at eighth with 1,790 career points. She is now 40 points out of seventh place, currently held by New Mexico's Abby Garchek with 1,836 points between 1994-98. The WAC's leader in career points in Colorado State's Becky Hammon, who scored 2,740 points in her Ram career.
GOOD WORK(S)
Utah Valley's Britta Hall was named to the Allstate/WBCA Good Works Team. The award comes to Hall after she took time off from playing college basketball to serve a voluntary mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rancagua, Chile, for 18 months. This year, the members of the Allstate WBCA Good Works Team® will be recognized during the 2017 WBCA Convention and at the 2017 NCAA Women's Final Four® in Dallas, and will also participate in a local community project in Dallas community.
SHE GOT GAME
CSU Bakersfield's Jazmyne Bartee became just the third player this season in NCAA Division I to take a minimum of 10 shots and make them all after going 10-for-10 in a win over Utah Valley. Kelsey Lang of Texas was 11-for-11 in a game over New Orleans on Dec. 20 and Ohio State's Tori McCoy was 10-for-10 against Southern on Dec. 7. Her eight blocks against UVU tie her for 9th among individuals this season while CSUB's 13 blocks as a team in the same game is tied for 10th nationally.
WINNING WAYS
Currently 11-0 in conference play, defending champion NM State is now 37-2 in WAC games dating back to the start of the 2014-15 season. Add in WAC tournament games and the Aggies are 41-2 against WAC schools over the last three seasons.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
CSU Bakersfield closed out 2016 with a milestone victory at home, winning the ‘Runners 100th game at the Icardo Center. Seattle U is also hit a milestone on Jan. 7 against CSUB, earning the Redhawks' 300th win at Connolly Complex. NM State is the latest team to hit a milestone, earning the Aggies' 400th win at Pan American Center on Feb. 12 against Grand Canyon.
MILLENIUM CLUB
NM State senior Brianna Freeman scored her 1,000th career point on Jan. 7 against Chicago State. Teammate Moriah Mack accomplished the feat on Jan. 28 against Utah Valley. UVU's Mariah Seals was the third player to join the club this season, scoring her 1,000th career point on Feb. 4 against Seattle U. The latest player to score her 1,000th point is Seattle U's Kaylee Best, who broke into four digits on Feb. 16 at Grand Canyon. The quartet joins UT Rio Grande Valley senior Shawnte' Goff as the four active 1,000-point scorers in the league.
