DENVER - The Western Athletic Conference announced its men's and women's Swimming and Diving Pre-Championship Coaches Polls, as voted on by the seven men's head coaches and the eight women's head coaches in the league. Air Force was selected as the favorite to win the men's championship and Northern Arizona was selected as the favorite to win the women's championship.
On the men's side, Air Force was picked as the favorite with five first place votes and 35 points overall. Wyoming received second place with 32 points and two first place votes. In third is Grand Canyon with 26 points. Behind the ‘Lopes is UNLV with 20 points. Followed by North Dakota with 17 points and CSU Bakersfield with 11 points in the fifth and sixth spots. Seattle U rounds out the men's poll with 6 points.
For the women, Northern Arizona was picked as the favorite to win the conference championship with 47 points and 6 first place votes. Grand Canyon received second with 39 points. North Dakota received two first place votes as they tied New Mexico State for the third spot at 34 points. Fifth place goes to Idaho with 27 points, followed by CSU Bakersfield with 23 points. Seattle U with 13 points and Northern Colorado with 7 points round out the poll in seventh and eighth.
The 2017 Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving championships will take place at the CRWC Natatorium in Houston, Texas this Wednesday-Saturday, February 22-25.
