WAC Tennis Players of the Week Announced

DENVER - Seattle U's Jeremiah Kalmus and Caroline Maltby have been named the Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 13-19.

Kalmus, a sophomore from Kenmore, Wash., went undefeated in singles play this week. He beat opponents from Idaho State (6-2, 6-2), Lewis Clark State College (6-2, 6-0), and Idaho (6-3, 6-3). He also teamed up with partner Arshak Ghazaryan to defeat Lewis Clark State College (6-0) in doubles.

Maltby, a freshman from Glen Ellyn, Ill., went undefeated in both singles and doubles play this week. She defeated competition from Portlant (6-7, 6-4, 10-0). She also picked up wins against UC Irvine (6-4, 6-3) and Whitman (6-3, 6-1). In doubles, she teamed up with Kailyn Skjonsby to beat UC Irvine (6-1) and Whitman (6-2). The duo also took a win by default in their match against Portland.

Other male nominees: UTRGV's Koby Jansen picked up a win in singles against Lamar (6-2, 6-4).

Other female nominees: Grand Canyon's Susan Baklini won three singles matches and two doubles matches against opponents from Western New Mexico, Nevada, and Weber State… UTRGV's Marine Darzyan won both her singles match and her doubles match against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
