DENVER -UT Rio Grande Valley's Ali Khazenbeik has been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for the week of Feb. 15 through Feb. 21.
Khazanbeik, a junior from Osterburken, Germany (Ludwig-Earhard-Schule Mosbach), finished in a tie for sixth at the Atchafalaya Intercollegiate after shooting a 1-under-par 215. His best round came in the second round, shooting a 4-under-par 68 to move to within two shots off the lead. Khazanbeik's big week moved him up to fifth in the WAC's individual standings as he is averaging 72.42 strokes per round through 12 rounds this year.
Other men's nominees: Grand Canyon's Vinnie Murphy earned a top-20 finish at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawai'i, finishing in a tie for 18th place with a 1-under-par 215 … NM State's Luis Medina led the Aggies with an even-par 216 at the All-America Intercollegiate in Houston.
