NAMPA, Idaho - Grand Canyon jumped out to the lead in both the women's and men's title races on the second day of the 2017 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships from the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho. The Lopes claimed five individual titles on the day, highlighted by Marcus Flannigan's third-straight title in the long jump and Pierre-Louis Ricou's repeat win in the heptathlon. Trista Smith claimed the women's pole vault, Kayla Wilson claimed the women's long jump and 2017 Olympian Tarasue Barnett claimed the wieght throw to pace the GCU women.

UMKC swept the distance medley relay, and added an individual title by Alex Guitierrex in the men's high jump, as the men ended the day in second and the women were in third. Utah Valley traded places with UMKC, with the women in second and the men third. UVU was dominant in the distance races, as Tyson Lambert and Savannah Berry claimed their respective 5,000-meter titles, while McKay Burnett set a career best in winning the men's weight throw for the third-straight year.

WIth all the prelims completed, the final day of the championship will be full of action with 22 events up for grabs as teams battle for the WAC title. Competition begins at 9 a.m. MT with field events, with running events starting at noon.
