NAMPA, Idaho - The Grand Canyon men's and women's team claimed the titles at the 2017 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho. 22 different events were contested on the day, but the Lopes, helmed by men's and women's Coach of the Year Tom Flood, held on to second day leads and were able to comfortably claim the titles

The GCU women were led by High Point Award winner and Outstanding Track Performaner Tarasue Barnett, who won both the women's weight throw and shot put. NM State's Cristina Amberg was the Outstanding Track Performer on the stregnth of a first-place finish in the mile and a second-place finish in the 3,000-meters, while teammate Lashira Tremble was named Freshman of the Year on the stregnth of a win in the 60-meter dash.

On the men's side, GCU was led by High Point Award winner Pierre-louis Ricou, the second-year in a row he has earned that award. Utah Valley's Tyson Lambert was a double champion in the 3,000-meters and 5,000-meters to earn Outstanding Track Performer and teammate Daven Russell won the Outstanding Field Performer of the meet. UMKC freshman Christopher Bryan scored in four different events to earn Freshman of the Year honors.
