DENVER - Grand Canyon redshirt junior
Joshua Braun has been voted to the Academic All-District 8 Men's Basketball Team. He now advances to the national ballot for Academic All-America® consideration. That team will be announced on March 2.
Braun is working on a master's degree in business administation and currently carries a perfect 4.00 grade-point average. He earned his undergraduate degree in business management. Last year he was honored as a first team Academic All-American®, becoming just the 23rd men's basketball player in WAC history to earn the honor and Grand Canyon's first-ever first team selection in men's basketball. He is a two-time Academic All-WAC honoree.
The WAC Preseason Player of the Year, Braun was named to the Lou Henson Award Preseason Watch List, given to the nation's top Division I mid-major player. After missing several non-conference games with a knee injury, he currently ranks third in the league in WAC games in scoring (18.7) and minutes per game (37.43), fourth in three-pointers per game (2.29) and sixth in free throw percentage (81.0). Earlier this year he scored his 1,000th career point, becoming the Lopes' first 1,000 point scorer in the Division I era, and has 1,163 career points.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA at his current institution. Voting is done by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
