DENVER -Utah Valley's Ariel Elftman-Hanson and NM State's Kristen Cline have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, respectively, for the week of Feb. 22 through Feb. 28.
Elftman-Hanson, a junior from Wailuku, Hawai'i (H.P. Baldwin HS), tied for 21st at the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz. He carded a 3-under-par 213 en-route to the top-25 finish, shooting a 1-under-par 71 in each of his three rounds. As a team, the Wolverines took ninth among 16 teams.
Kline, a senior from Socorro, N.M. (Socorro HS), played her best golf of the season at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. She finished the 54-hole tournament with a 2-under-par 214, Her best round came on the first day, firing a 5-under-par 67 as she eventually finished in a tie for sixth among 76 golfers. As a team, the Aggies took sixth, finishing ahead of tournament-host Wisconsin, Oregon State, Notre Dame, Washington State and Nebraska.
Other men's nominees: NM State's Isaac Merry tied for 18th at the National Invitation Tournament, finishing with a 2-under-par 214 ... UT Rio Grande Valley's Luca Portelli had two rounds under par at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational in Houston.
Other women's nominees: UT Rio Grande Valley's Shweta Mansingh tied for seventh among 68 golfers at the Islander Classic, shooting a 9-over-par 225.
