DENVER - New Mexico State's Sergi Espias and Rimpledeep Kaur have been named the Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for March 6-12.
Espias, a junior from Barcelona, Spain picked up five wins this week. He earned two singles wins against St. Mary's (7-6, 6-4) and Nevada (6-4, 3-6, 6-1). In doubles, he teamed up with partner Enrique Asmar to earn three wins. The duo defeated opponents from St. Mary's (7-5), Nevada (6-4), and Portland (6-4).
Kaur, a junior from Jassowal, India, earned two singles wins on the week. She defeated the flight one opponent from Abilene Christian (3-6, 7-5, 10-6) and also picked up a win against Hardin-Simmons (6-2, 6-2). She teamed up with Marie-Pier Thiffault in doubles to defeat opponents from Hardin-Simmons (8-4).
Other male nominees: Seattle U's John Stormans won both his matches this week with a singles and doubles win over Whitman College.
Other female nominees: Chicago State's Hanna Pangestu picked up one singles and one doubles win over Oakland… UTRGV's Dominique Ibarra went undefeated against Texas A&M- Corpus Christi earning both a singles and doubles win… Seattle U's Barbara Carey won both matches against George Fox picking up a win in singles and doubles.
