DENVER - Seattle U's Joe Harvie and NM State's Pun Chanachai have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 8 through March 14.

Harvie, a junior from Orting, Wash. (Orting HS), overcame a rough opening round to finishing just 1-over-par to finish in a tie for 18th at the Bandon Dunes Invitational in Bandon, Ore. He shot a 79 on the first day but followed that up with a 2-under-par 70 in the second round and continued to get better, shooting a 4-under-par 68 in the final round. As a team, the Redhawks finished seventh among a competitive field.

Chanachai, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand (The Demonstration School of Ramkhamhaeng), continued to lead the Aggies against some of the top competition in the country at the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz. The freshman shot a 3-under-par 213 to finish tied for third among 75 individuals. She set a new career best of 3-under-par 69 in the final round as the Aggies took second among 13 teams, including Houston, UNLV, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas State, all of whom were above NMSU in the NCAA team rankings.

Other men's nominees: Utah Valley's Blair Bursey shot a 5-over-par 220 to tie for 30th at the Bandon Dunes Invitational.

Other women's nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Ariel Lee led the ‘Runners in a pair of tournaments last week, taking ninth at the Jackrabbit Invitational and tying for 60th at the Fresno State Classic … Grand Canyon's Deanna Salvatori shot a 2-over-par 218 to finish in a tie for fourth at the GCU Invitational … Seattle U's Yen Ting Wong helped lead the Redhawks to a second-place finish at the GCU invitational, shooting a 2-over-par 218 … UT Rio Grande Valley's Jessica Young was 6-over-par at the GCU Invitational, good enough for ninth place overall.
