DENVER - Grand Canyon's Lorenzo Fucile and New Mexico State's Rimpledeep Kaur have been named the Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for March 13-19.
Fucile, a freshman from Messina, Italy, earned three wins this week. In singles, he defeated UC Riverside (6-3, 6-3) and was winning against Idaho when the match was called. In doubles, he teamed up with Valentin Lang to pick up wins against UC Riverside (6-4) and Idaho (6-2).
Kaur, a junior from Jassowal, India, went undefeated this week. She earned three wins in singles over Seattle U (6-1, 1-6, 6-4), UMKC (6-4, 6-3), and UTRGV (6-1, 6-2). She was also leading an opponent from Iowa State when the match was left unfinished. She has now won five straight singles matches. In doubles, she picked up four wins against Iowa State (6-4), Seattle U (6-4), UMKC (6-3), and UTRGV (6-4).
Other male nominees: UMKC's Airam Castellano earned one singles and one doubles win against Wichita State… UTRGV's Yehonatan Kaufman picked up a singles win against Kennesaw State and a singles and doubles win against USC Upstate.
Other female nominees: UTRGV's Dominique Ibarra won three singles matches and three doubles matches against Chicago State, Seattle U, and New Mexico State… Grand Canyon's Alexandra Petrzalkova won two singles and two doubles matches against Chicago State and Seattle U… UMKC's Yana Grechkina earned two singles and two doubles wins against New Mexico State and Chicago State… Seattle U's Michelle Lui earned singles wins over UTRGV and Grand Canyon and doubles wins over New Mexico State and Grand Canyon.
