WAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER - UTRGV's Jennifer Zapata and Grand Canyon's Sasha-Gaye Marston have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 20-26.

Zapata, a junior from Los Fresnos, TX., posted a second place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Victor Lopez Classic. She set a new program record, posting a career best time of 10:53.64. Her time ranks first in the WAC and 31st in the NCAA.

Marston, a senior from Clarendon, Jamaica, earned first place in the discus at the Aztec Invitational. She recorded a new PR of 52.39m, ranking her first in the WAC and 21st in the NCAA.

Other Track Nominees: Grand Canyon's Martina Cernochova set a new PR and placed seventh in the 100m (11.86) at the Aztec Invitational, ranking her first in the WAC… CSU Bakersfield's Falon Wilson placed sixth in the 100m hurdles (14.71), moving her to eighth all-time on CSUB's Top 20 list… Utah Valley's Darian Dutton won the 5,000m (17:14.86) at the Aztec Invitational, recording a new PR that ranks first in the WAC and 51st in the NCAA… New Mexico State's Crissey Amberg placed third in the 800m (2:12.90) at the UTEP Springtime Invitational, ranking first in the WAC and setting a new PR.

Other Field Nominees: Utah Valley's Chelsey Stegelmeier finished third in the hammer throw (50.65m) at the UC Riverside Spring Classic setting a new PR that ranks 5th all-time in UVU history… New Mexico State's Kayli Farmer competed at the UTEP Springtime Invitational, finishing first in the the javelin (44.06m) with a WAC-leading mark that ranks 56th in the NCAA, and she earned second place in the high jump (1.68m) with a WAC-leading mark that ranks 39th in the NCAA.
