WAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER - Utah Valley's Jason Lynch and Grand Canyon's Scott Marshall have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 20-26.

Lynch, a senior from Sandy, Utah, made his season debut at the UC Riverside Spring Classic, setting a new PR and finishing third in the 3,000m. His time (8:34.70) ranks fifth in UVU's all-time outdoor history. He also competed at the Aztec Invitational, wining the 5,000m (14:28.56) and setting a new PR. His time ranks first in the conference and 34th in the NCAA.

Marshall, a junior from Tempe, Ariz., won the pole vault at the Aztec Invitational. His mark of 5.11m is the best in the WAC and ranks 18th in the NCAA.

Other Track Nominees: Grand Canyon's Anthony Phelps won the 400m hurdles (52.48) at the Aztec Invitational, setting a new PR that ranks first in the conferece… UTRGV's Yariel Matute earned fifth place in the 400m (48.30) at the Victor Lopez Classic, ranking first in the WAC… CSU Bakersfield's Curt Threlkeld won the 800m (1:54.31) at the Cal Poly ShareSLO Invitational, ranking first in the conference.

Other Field Nominees: UTRGV's Paul May placed third in the shot put (16.07m) at the Victor Lopez Classic, ranking first in the WAC…Utah Valley's Blake Kvarfordt set a new PR and finished fourth in the discus (49.48m) at the UC Riverside Spring Classic, ranking second in the WAC and in UVU program history… CSU Bakersfield's Justin McKinley won the long jump (23' 6.25”), ranking first in the WAC and 66th in the NCAA.
