DENVER - New Mexico State's Christofer Goncalves and Grand Canyon's Tatum Prudhomme have been named the Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for March 20-26.
Goncalves, a junior from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, won two singles matches over GCU (6-1, 6-1) and Chicago State (6-2, 6-2) helping the Aggies earn two team wins. He has now won 25 singles matches overall this season. In doubles, he partnered with Luis Flores to pick up two more wins over GCU (6-4) and Chicago State (6-3), making that 17 doubles wins this season.
Prudhomme, a senior from Glendale, Ariz., earned two wins against Idaho State at home on Senior Day. She defeated her opponent in singles (6-0, 7-5), and clinched the doubles point with the tiebreak win (7-6 (3)).
Other male nominees: UTRGV's Clément Sarradin won two singles and two doubles matches against UMKC and Seattle U… Grand Canyon's Mathieu Rajaonah won three singles matches against NMSU, UMKC, and Chicago State and picked up doubles wins over UMKC and Chicago State… UMKC's Airam Castellano earned two singles victories over UTRGV and Seattle U and picked up three doubles wins over UTRGV, GCU, and Seattle U.
Other female nominees: Seattle U's Michelle Lui picked up a win in singles and doubles against Lewis-Clark State College… New Mexico State's Vanessa Valdez forced a third set in singles against New Mexico before her opponent retired while also picking up a win over the Lobos in doubles.
