DENVER - Seattle U's Joe Harvie and UMKC's Cynthia Diaz have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 22 through March 28.
Harvie, a junior from Orting, Wash. (Orting HS), led the Redhawks at the Oregon Duck Invitational, tying for 18th place with a 4-over-par 217. His best round came on the final day as he was 1-under-par to move up 14 spots in the individual standings. He was over a stroke below his season average of 73.50 on the week as the Redhawks finished in ninth place.
Diaz, a sophomore from Bucaramanga, Columbia (Colegio Panamericano) registered her second-straight top-10 finish, tying for sixth place at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Virginia. After shooting a 6-over-par 78 to open the tournament, she carded a 1-over-par 73 in the second round and finished the tournament with an even-par 72 to move up the individual standings. As a team, the Roos were seventh among 22 teams competing.
Other men's nominees: UMKC's McCain Schellhardt led the Roos at the Oregon Duck Invitational, placing 37th with a 9-over-par 222.
Other women's nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Tori Peers was the top golfer as she shot a 3-over-par 76 to lead the ‘Runners to a dual match victory over CSUN.
