LAS VEGAS - Chicago State kept it close through three quarters but the Cougars couldn't complete the upset in the fourth as the Seattle U Redhawks advanced 77-69 in the 2017 WAC Tournament on Wednesday at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
Wilma Afunugo took control from the Redhawks from the very beginning, scoring 12 of her eventual 22 points in the first two quarters but the Cougars kept fighting as Seattle U was only up one point at halftime, 31-30. CSU kept the fight going into the third quarter but Seattle U finally was able to pull away in the fourth quarter to earn the 18-point win.
Seattle U was led by the 22 points from Afunugo. Alexis Montgomery brought down 18 rebounds to go with 11 points for the double-double while Kaylee Best scored 13 points on the night.
CSU was led by 15 points from Jessica Cerda. Kaylee Allen and Cailin Nix each added 13 points in the loss.
