DENVER -Grand Canyon's Billy Comeaux and Seattle U's Ellen Brantburg have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 1 through March 7.
Comeaux, a senior from Tucson, Ariz. (Sabino HS), shot a 4-under-par 212 to win the Sacramento State Invitational and lead the Lopes to the team title as well. His best performance came in round two, shooting a 3-under-par 69 as he became the third different Lope to earn medalist honors this year. Grand Canyon also won its third straight team title.
Brantberg, a senior from Stockholm, Sweden (Viktor Rydberg Gymnasium), had one of the best finishes of her Seattle U career, tying for second at the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz. She fired a 1-under-par 215 on the tournament to help lead the Redhawks to the team title. Her best round came on the opening day, shooting a 3-under-par 69 in the first round.
Other men's nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Nathan Green led the ‘Runners at the Sacramento State Invitational, shooting a 236.
Other women's nominees: Grand Canyon's Courtney Vogel took second at the UTRGV Invitational, shooting an 11-over-par 224 … UT Rio Grande Valley's Michelle Moroles tied for eighth at the UTRGV Invitational with a 16-over-par 229 … Utah Valley's Ana Raga shot a 9-over-par 225 to tie for 17th at the Red Rocks Invitational.
