2017 WAC Tournament - Quarterfinal No. 3

LAS VEGAS - In a game with 18 ties and 15 lead changes, No. 3-seed UMKC defeated sixth-seeded UT Rio Grande Valley 82-78 in overtime in the final quarterfinal game of the WAC Tournament Thursday. The Roos advance to face No. 2 NM State in the semifinals Friday.

UTRGV was down by six points with 1:28 left in the game when Nick Dixon and Lew Stallworth hit back-to-back three-pointers to force overtime. In overtime, LaVell Boyd scored 12 of UMKC's 15 points to secure the win for the Roos.

UMKC set the WAC Tournament records with 27 free throws made and 43 free throws attempted, while the Vaqueros were 21-of-36 at the line. The Roos out-rebounded UTRGV 53-47.

Boyd led all players with 22 points, while Kyle Steward posted a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Broderick Newbill also doubled up with 10 points and 10 boards.

Stallworth led the Vaqueros with 20 points, while Antonio Green added 19 points and eight rebounds. Nick Dixon chipped in 17 points.
