DENVER - NM State's Kelsey Horton and Utah Valley's Lauren Frailey have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 3-9. This is the second honor of the season and third of her career for Horton and the second honor of the season and of her career for Frailey.
Horton, a sophomore second baseman from San Clemente, Calif., hit .600 with four extra-base hits and six RBIs last week. She hit three home runs and a double with two walks and four runs scored over in three games. Horton recorded an impressive 1.600 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base clip. She opened the week with a 2-for-2 performance with a double and one run scored in the series opener at Seattle U. In the second game of the series, Horton tied the program and WAC records by hitting three home runs in the Aggies' 14-6 victory over the Redhawks. She hit homers in three straight at-bats, becoming the first WAC player to do so in a conference game since 2010. In WAC games, Horton leads the league with a .632 batting average.
Frailey, a junior right-hander from Tooele, Utah, went 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA and eight strikeouts to lead Utah Valley to a series victory over CSU Bakersfield. Frailey pitched in all three ballgames in the series and tossed a total of 15.0 innings, which included two complete-game victories. In the opener against the ‘Runners, Frailey struck out a season-high six batters while allowing just five hits and two runs to help the Wolverines pull out a 6-2 win over CSUB. After two more scoreless innings of action in game two, Frailey then capped her strong weekend with a three-hit gem in which she gave up just one run and struck out one on the way to tossing her second complete-game victory of the series. Frailey is now 7-5 on the season with a 3.05 ERA and seven complete games.

Jenna Coates of Grand Canyon hit .333 with a pair of home runs doubles and five RBIs on the week ... UMKC's Kelsey Goodwin hit .429 with one RBI ... Madison Cathcart of Seattle U hit .600 with one double, one homer and five RBIs last week ... Utah Valley's Basia Query hit .833 with one double, one homer and one RBI on the week.
Other Pitcher of the Week nominees included: Grand Canyon's Taylor Nowlin went 1-1 with a 2.10 ERA and 13 strikeouts ... Lynsey Conner of UMKC went 1-1 with a 3.11 ERA and two strikeouts of 9.0 innings ... NM State's Kayla Green went 0-1 with a 3.42 ERA and three strikeouts over 14.1 innings.
