WAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER - Utah Valley's Alena Gillespie and Grand Canyon's Nyomi Mosley have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 3-10.

Gillespie, a junior from Highland, UT., earned victories in all three of her events at the Utah/Weber State Spring Classic. She won the 100m with a time of 11.70 seconds, a new PR that is tied for the best in the conference. Her time in the 200m (24.17) is also first in the conference. She also helped the Wolverines take first in the women's 4x100 with a time of 46.76 seconds.

Mosley, a redshirt senior from Sedona, Ariz., won the hammer throw at the Arizona Outdoor Classic with a throw of 52.96m. She already holds the conference's top spot in the event. In the discus, she finished third with a PR of 43.74m. Her throw ranks fifth in the WAC.

Other Track Nominees: Grand Canyon's Jessy Eatmon finished third in the 100m and second in the 200m with two PR times at the Arizona Outdoor Classic… UMKC's Chantel Bethune finished second in the 400m at the Husker Spring Invite, breaking a school record and ranking first in the conference… Seattle U's Moira O'Connor Lenth won the 5,000m at WAR X with a PR time… New Mexico State's Nia Garcia placed ninth in the 100m hurdles at the Baylor Invitational, ranking her fifth in the WAC… Chicago State's Zhate Jackson won the 200m at the Benedictine NCAA Challenge with a time that ranks fifth in the conference.

Other Field Nominees: Utah Valley's Mykah Ouderkirk placed second in the long jup at the Utah/Weber State Spring Classic… UMKC's Matia Finley placed fourth in the discus at the Husker Spring Invite with a mark that ranks second in the conference… Seattle U's Mandie Maddux finished fourth in the javelin at WAR X, ranking second in the WAC… New Mexico State's Keyarha Wilson placed fourth in the high jump at the Baylor Invitational.
