DENVER- New Mexico State's Stijn de Haan and Rebecca Keijzerwaard have been named the Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for April 3-10.
De Haan, a sophomore from Veldhoven, Netherlands, went 6-0 on the week. He earned three doubles wins over Seattle U (6-3, 6-1), UMKC (6-2, 6-0), and UTRGV (6-3, 6-2), giving up no more than three points in all sic sets of singles action. In doubles, he picked up wins over Seattle U (6-4), UMKC (6-4), and UTRGV (6-3). De Haan finished league play undefeated in singles with a 5-0 record, and ended with a 4-1 record in doubles.
Keijzerwaard, a freshman from Oudenhoorn, Netherlands went undefeated last week earning three wins. In singles play, she defeated Western New Mexico (6-3, 6-1) and UTSA (7-6,7-5). In doubles, she teamed up with partner Vanessa Valdez to earn a win over New Mexico State (6-2), and to lead UTSA (4-3) when the match was halted. Keijzerwaard clinched the doubles points in the Aggies 7-0 sweep of Western New Mexico.
Other male nominees: UMKC's Mike Psarros went 4-0 this week with two singles wins and two doubles wins over Chicago State and NM State… Chicago State's Felix Savard went undefeated in singles this week with wins over UTRGV, Seattle U, and UMKC.
Other female nominees: UTRGV's Dominique Esparza won both her singles and doubles match in the Vaqueros win against Laredo Community College.
