DENVER- New Mexico State's Crissey Amberg and Utah Valley's Mindy Stapel have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 10-16.
Amberg, a junior from Albuquerque, NM., ran the 1500m at the Bryan Clay Invite this past weekend. She set a new school record finishing 38th of 274 runners with a PR time of 4:25.37. Her time ranks first in the conference and 54th on the NCAA West qualifying list.
Stapel, a senior from Springville, UT., placed 12th of 64 competitors in the high jump at the Long Beach State Beach Invitational. Her mark of 1.70m is the all-time second best mark in UVU history and is tied for first in the WAC. She also set a new PR in the 100H, finishing with a time of 14.91 seconds.
Other Track Nominees: UMKC's Remy Abrought placed third in the 100H at the K.T. Woodman Classic, ranking her first in the conference… Seattle U's Moira O'Connor Lenth set a new PR in the 1500m at the Bryan Clay Invitational to rank second in the WAC… Utah Valley's Alena Gillespie earned a WAC-leading time in the 200m at the Long Beach State Beach Invitational ranking her all-time second best in the program history… Chicago State's Zhate Jackson won 200m and helped win the 4x100m at the WIU Lee Calhoun Invitational… Grand Canyon's Mariah Montoya set a new PR and school record in the 10,000m at the Mt. SAC Relays to rank first in the conference.
Other Field Nominees: UMKC's Matia Finley won the discus throw at the K.T. Woodman Classic… Seattle U's Katie Fleming set a new PR in the triple jump at the Bryan Clay Invitational… Grand Canyon's Kayla Wilson set a new PR in the long jump at the Bryan Clay Invitational to rank second in the conference… New Mexico State's Kayli Farmer set a season best and WAC-leading mark in the javelin at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
