DENVER- UMKC's Airam Castellano and Yana Grechkina have been named the Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for April 10-16.
Castellano, a junior from Gran Canaria, Spain, went 2-0 in the Roos matchup against Creighton last week. He earned a singles win (6-0, 6-2) and teamed up with partner Mike Psarros to pick up a win in doubles (6-0). He is now 12-6 in singles play.
Grechkina, a freshman from Vladimir, Russia finished last week 4-0. She earned two wins in singles over Creighton (6-0, 6-1) and Northwest Missouri State (7-5, 6-1). She also earned two doubles wins with parter Aliona Ladustka. The duo defeated opponents from Creighton (7-5) and Northwest Missouri State (6-3), contributing to the Roos overall victories.
Other male nominees: New Mexico State Christofer Goncalves earned two singles wins and two doubles wins over Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin… Seattle U's John Stormans earned two wins over Puget Sound in singles and doubles.
Other female nominees: UTRGV's Chloe Leclere earned a singles win over Texas State… Chicago State's Carynne Lloyd won a singles and doubles match against Saint Joseph's College… Seattle U's Barbara Carey defeated Puget Sound in singles and doubles… New Mexico State's Rimpledeep Kaur earned four wins over UTEP and UT Permian Basin.
