DENVER - NM State's Luis Medina has been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Golfers of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 12 through April 18.
Medina, a senior from Guadalajara, Mexico (Montverde Academy), closed out the regular season with his best finish of 2016-17, finishing second at the Cal Poly Shootout in Arroyo Grande, Calif. After posting a season-best 7-under-par 65 in the first round, he shot a 4-under-par 68 in the second round as he finished second among 62 competitors. His 16 birdies were a tournament-best as he helped the Aggies to a fourth place team finish.
Other men's nominees: Grand Canyon's Vinnie Murphy tied for sixth at the El Macero Classic, posting a 7-over-par 223 … UMKC's Francois Lagraulet shot a 2-under-par 214 at the Hawkeye Invitational to wrap up the regular season … Seattle U's Patrick Sato shot a 7-over-par 223 to lead the Redhawks to the team title at El Macero Classic.
