WAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER- UMKC's Chantel Bethune and New Mexico State's Kayli Farmer have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 17-23.

Bethune, a senior from St. Louis, MO., placed first in the 400m at the Kansas Relays last weekend. Her time of 55.18 seconds is second in the conference only to Bethune's own previous WAC-leading time. She now ranks 49th in the NCAA West.

Farmer, a junior from Aztec, Ariz., won the javelin throw at the UTEP Invitational with a season-best mark of 46.49m. Her throw ranks first in the WAC and 29th in NCAA West.

Other Track Nominees: NM State's Katara Nelson competed at the UTEP Invitational and placed ninth in the 200m with a season best time… Chicago State's Zhate Jackson set a new school record taking first in the 200m at the CUC Cougar Invitational…

Other Field Nominees: Grand Canyon's Kayla Wilson placed second in the triple jump with a new WAC-leading mark… Chicago State's Shedella Smith set a new season-best placing fifth in the shot put at the CUC Cougar Invitational… UMKC's Rebecca Finley won the discus throw at the Kansas Relays setting a new PR and ranking third in the conference.
