LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Top-seeded NM State used a six-run sixth inning to defeat fifth-seeded CSU Bakersfield 7-2 in game three of the WAC Tournament Thursday.
The 'Runners got on the board in the top of the first when Jo Larios hit a two-run homer. The Aggies answered in the bottom of the frame when Rachel Rodriguez tripled and then scored on a Haley Nakamura ground out.
After four scoreless innings, CSUB starting pitcher Summer Evans issued three walks, including the leading run. WAC Player of the Year Kelsey Horton then hit a grand slam to put the Aggies up 7-2.
Rodriguez led the Aggies at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Horton drove in four runs with the grand slam.
Samaria Diaz earned the win in the circle, throwing 3.2 scoreless innings. She struck out one and walked one.
Evans took the loss, falling to 8-13 on the year.
