LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Fourth-seeded UMKC eliminated No. 2-seed Utah Valley from the WAC Tournament with a 12-8 victory in the final game of the first day of the tournament Thursday.
The Roos had a season-high 18 in the victory, including four each by Kelsey Goodwin and Maegan Rollow.
UMKC got on the board early, scoring four runs in the top of the first. After a Wolverine run in the bottom of the second, the Roos extended their lead with six runs in the top of the third inning to jump out to a 10-1 lead.
Utah Valley scored four runs on three hits, including a Lyndsay Steverson grand slam, in the bottom of the fourth to put pressure on the Roos.
UMKC added a run on a Rollow double in the top of the fifth to give UMKC a six-run advantage, but the Wolverines added two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to make it a 11-8, but a clutch two-out RBI single by Lia Lombardini in the top of the seventh helped UMKC hold on for the 12-8 victory.
Rollow paced the Roos with four RBIs, while Goodwin was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two driven in.
Lyndsay Steverson led Utah Valley at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Kirsten Anderson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Sara Miller earned the win in the circle for the Roos, her first of the season, while Bailey Moore suffered the loss for Utah Valley, finishing the season at 2-10.
