DENVER - Sacramento State's Trent Goodrich and Utah Valley's Patrick Wolfe have been named Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for May 15 - May 21.
Goodrich, a senior shortstop from Chandler, Ariz. (Hamilton HS/South Mountain CC), reached based in 10 of 15 plate appearances and recorded three multi-hit games to lead the Hornets to a sweep over UT Rio Grande Valley. His best game came on Friday, going 4-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. On the week, he was 9-for-14 from the plate for a .643 batting average.
Wolfe, a senior left-hander from Reno, Nev. (Damonte Ranch HS), extended his school-record saves total to 11 in a series-clinching win at Seattle U. He also picked up the win over Seattle U on Thursday to help the Wolverines clinch a trip to the WAC Tournament this week in Mesa, Ariz. On the week, he allowed three hits over four scoreless innings with five strikeouts and a pair of walks.
Other Hitter of the Week nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Junior Felix hit .455 in the ‘Runners three-game series at NM State … Grand Canyon's Greg Saenz hit .462 as the Lopes took two out of three at UC Davis to conclude the season … NM State's Brent Sakurai led the Aggies at the plate, hitting .643 as NMSU took two of three from CSU Bakersfield … Northern Colorado's Brett Minnick had a trio of two-hit games as the Bears swept Chicago State to earn a berth in the WAC Tournament … UT Rio Grande Valley's Joseph Collazo finished up the season with his eighth multi-hit game of the season on Friday at Sacramento State … Utah Valley's Zac Willis homered and drove in seven runs as UVU split four games last week.
Other Pitcher of the Week nominees: Grand Canyon's Jake Repavich allowed just one earned run over 5.2 innings but earned the no decision in an eventual win at UC Davis … NM State's Ruger Rodriguez allowed one hit over three innings in two appearances for the Aggies … Northern Colorado's Troy Watson pitched seven scoreless innings in the Bears' 10-0 win over Chicago State on Thursday … Sacramento State's Justin Dillon didn't allow an extra-base hit in Thursday's win over UTRGV, going six innings with seven strikeouts to earn the victory.
