MESA, Ariz. - Sacramento State's Justin Dillon put together a strong performance on the mound and the Hornet offense backed him up with three home runs in an 11-1 win over Seattle U on Wednesday evening at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz.
The Hornets struck early on a three-run home run by Kody Reynolds in the bottom of the first and doubled their lead with three more runs in the bottom of the third. Dillon had the SU hitters under control as the Redhawks didn't collect their second hit until the sixth inning.
Sacramento State added another run in the sixth and then a pair of home runs in the bottom of the seventh gave the Hornets the 11-1 win in the run-ruled shortened game.
Dillon earned the win for Sacramento State, scattering one run on five hits with six strikeouts. Jake Prizina took the loss for Seattle U, allowing six runs on six hits over three innings.
Sacramento State will take on CSU Bakersfield on Friday at 3 p.m. Seattle U will face Utah Valley in a rematch of the 2016 WAC Championship game at 11 a.m. on Thursday but with much different implications as the loser will head home and the winner will attempt to survive the losers bracket.
