MESA, Ariz. - In a matchup of the WAC Freshman of the Year against the WAC Pitcher of the Year, it was youth coming out on top as Parker Brahms and Sacramento State outlasted Max Carter and CSU Bakersfield, 10-6, on Thursday afternoon at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz.
The Hornets got after Carter right away, scoring two runs in the top of the first to take the lead. Sacramento State added another run in the top of the second before the 'Runners scored two runs on Brahms to pull back within one after two compelete frames.
After Sacramento State put three more on the board, CSUB's Andrew Penner hit a bases-loaded triple to pull back within a run but four more Hornet runs in the seventh and eighth innings to put the game out of reach as Sacramento State won for the second straight game.
Brahms earned the win for Sacramento State, allowing five runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings. Carter took the loss for CSUB, allowing seven runs on 12 hits over 6.2 innings.
CSU Bakersfield will take on Seattle U on Friday morning at 11 a.m. in an elimination game. Sacramento State will play at 7 p.m. against the winner of Thursday night's game between Northern Colorado and NM State.
