DENVER -
Utah Valley's Lyndsay Steverson and NM State's Kayla Green have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for May 1-7. This is the second honor of the season and of her career for Steverson and the second honor of the season and third of her career for Green.

Steverson, a freshman second baseman from Mesa, Ariz., led Utah Valley to a 7-5 come-from-behind victory over instate rival Weber State in its final home game of the season last week, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Steverson hit .667 on the game with a 1.667 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage. After Weber State tied the game in the top of the seventh, Steverson responded in the bottom of the inning by blasting out a two-run walk-off homer to left to secure the win for Utah Valley on Senior Day. Steverson also drove home the first run of the game on a first-inning fielder's choice, and added a walk and a single. The walk-off gave Steverson a total of 11 round trippers during her freshman campaign.

Green, a sophomore right-hander from Tucson, Ariz., started the game against Florida Atlantic last Thursday and threw the first four innings. She then reentered in the top of the seventh with a runner on first. After walking the next batter, Green settled in, recording three-straight outs to secure the victory and earn her fourth save of the season to tie the NM State single-season record. For the game, Green allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out three and walking two.

Other Hitter of the Week nominees included: NM State's Victoria Castro hit .429 with a double, a home run and three RBIs in a pair of games last week.

Other Pitcher of the Week nominees included: Utah Valley starter Bailey Moore allowed two earned runs over 6.1 innings and struck out three in a no decision last week.
