KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Utah Valley University and Grand Canyon University men's basketball teams were honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) with the Team Academic Excellence Award, the organization announced on Wednesday. It is the second straight season Utah Valley earned the honor and the first year of recognition for Grand Canyon.
Created by the NABC Committee on Academics, the award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2016-17 season. In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, institutions in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA Division I and II, must count the grade point averages of all men's student-athletes who competed during the 2015-16 season.
