DENVER - Northern Arizona's Alina Staffeldt and Christina Torrente have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 9-15.
Staffeldt, a senior from Hannover, Germany, went a perfect six-for-six in dual meet event wins this weekend versus Colorado State and Northern Colorado. On Friday, Staffeldt was on NAU's 200 medley (1:45.63) and 400 free (3:30.36) relay winning teams in addition to winning her only individual event in the 100 free with a time of 52.35. She then followed suit on Saturday by helping NAU defeat Nothern Colorado by swimming on the 400 medley (3:54.19) and 200 free (1:38.06) winning relay teams. She also won the individual 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.25.
Torrente, a junior from Redmond, Wash., swept the four diving events this past weekend, claiming four first-place honors. She started the weekend by winning the three-meter dive (301.58) and the one-meter event (268.65) against Colorado State. Torrente then followed with wins on the one-meter (277.28) and three-meter (269.70) versus Northern Colorado the next day.
Other swimmer nominees: Grand Canyon's Samiha Mohsen won two individual events (100 free in 52.42 and 50 free in 23.78) as well as two relay events (200 medley in 1:45.76 and 200 free in 1:35.39) this past weekend… Seattle U's Madi Lydig won the 200 back in 2:05.24 and came in second in the 1,000 free in 10:53.33.
Other diver nominee: NM State's Sheridan Decker qualified for NCAA Diving Zones with her 285.40 on the three-meter board claiming first place at the meet where she also placed second in the one-meter board with a score of 262.00.
