DENVER - Grand Canyon's Youssef El Kamash has been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 8-14.
El Kamash, a senior from Alexandria, Egypt, claimed four wins this past weekend as he helped his team defeat Brigham Young University 158.50-141.50. He set a new pool record in the 100 breast (55.85) which was ranked the second best performance of the meet. He then completed the 200 breast with a time of 2:05.20. El Kamash was also part of the 200 medley relay team that finished in a time of 1:29.02, as well as part of the 200 free relay team that sealed the overall team victory with a time of 1:22.78.
Other swimmer nominees: Air Force's Cole McAnany broke two pool records (100 back in 49.69 and 200 medley relay in 1:31.91) at Colorado College as he helped his team defeat both Incarnate Word and Seattle U with four individual wins (50 free in 20.81, 100 back, 50 free in 21.03 and 200 back in 1:52.35)… Seattle U's Mitchell Crossen finished first in the 200 free (1:44.30), while placing third in both 100 free with a pair of 46.70 finishes.
