WAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER - NM State's Tanisha Scott and Grand Canyon's Kayla Finnegan have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 16-22.

Scott, a senior from Seattle, set a personal record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.70 seconds this past weekend in the MLK Jr. Invitational. Her time placed her ninth out of 75 competitors and puts her third in the WAC for the season thus far. Scott then placed 43rd out of 106 competitors in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.54. She is also ranked third in the WAC in the 200-meter event. Scott also helped her 4x400 relay team run a WAC third best time of 3:59.37.

Finnegan, a fifth year senior from Moorelane, Okla., crushed the top mark in the WAC in the long jump by 15.25 inches in the MLK Jr. Invitational this past weekend. She jumped 5.92 meters on her very first jump of the meet to place ninth out of 69 competitors and 52nd nationally.

Other track nominees: Chicago State's Asia Johnson placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.01 and later finished sixth in the 60-meter dash when she recorded a time of 7.99… CSU Bakersfield's Ariana Mariscal placed third in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:20.86 and helped her 4x400 relay team finish with a time of 4:12.00… Grand Canyon's Shanice Lewis recorded a WAC second-best time of 8.76 in the 60-meter hurdles.

Other field nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Julianne Finch won the pole vault event out of seven competitors with a mark of 11-11.75… NM State's Keyarha Wilson placed second out of 29 competitors in the high jump with a mark of 1.71, which also ranks her 67th nationally.
