DENVER - NM State's Brooke Salas has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 22 through Jan. 28.

Salas, a junior guard from Placentia, Calif. (El Dorado HS), led the Aggies to their fifth WAC win to keep NM State atop the conference standings. Against Kansas City, she was 10-for-13 from the field with a pair of three-pointers and a pair of free throws for 24 points, also adding 14 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. The junior was also aggressive on the defensive end with three blocks and three steals in a 70-62 win. She ranks second in the WAC in scoring during conference play with 21.8 points per game and is the leading rebounder against league opponents with 9.7 rebounds per game. Her .560 shooting percentage from three-point range in also a league best during WAC play.

Other nominees included: CSU Bakersfield's Aja Williams scored a season-high 23 points as the ‘Runners earned an important home win over Seattle U … Chicago State's Alexandria Cliff recorded a career-best 15 points in a road loss at UT Rio Grande Valley … Grand Canyon's Brie Mobley scored 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting to lead the Lopes to a big win over visiting Utah Valley, 81-61 … Kansas City's Aries Washington scored 22 points and brought down 11 rebounds as the Roos fell on the road at NM State … Seattle U's Alexis Montgomery scored 28 points with eight rebounds in a road loss at CSU Bakersfield … UT Rio Grande Valley's Nichele Hyman helped spark the Vaquero offense with six assists to go with 10 points in an 81-44 win over Chicago State … Utah Valley's Mariah Seals tallied 21 points in a loss at Grand Canyon.
