WAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER - Utah Valley's Kevin Lynch and UT Rio Grande Valley's Paul May have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 22-28.

Lynch, a sophomore from Sandy, Utah, broke Utah Valley's program top mark this weekend at the 2018 University of Washington Open. He shattered his previous school record set at BYU (8:18.19) earlier in the season by nearly four seconds, running a time of 8:14.87. This was the third time this season the Wolverines saw their 3K record fall as Lynch finished 28th out of 61 competitors.

May, a junior from Bloomfield, Conn., won the shot put at the Houston Invitational. He broke his own program record (16.99) with a throw of 17.37 meters. May was the only thrower to surpass the 17-meter mark. The performance was a 68th- best in the nation and a WAC-best. He also added an eighth-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 16.47 meters.

Other track nominees: Chicago State's Ricordo McKenzie posted two second-place finishes, in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.90 against 47 competitors and in the 200-meter dash in 22.31seconds against 41 competitors … Grand Canyon's William Winfield IV ran a WAC-best in the 60-meter hurdles in a converted time of 8.19 for a third-place finish as well as competed in the 200-meter dash in 23.07 seconds … Kansas City's Daylan Quinn finished the one-mile run in 4:19.86 for a season-best and a second-place finish.

Other field nominees: Chicago State's Orelle Bulgin recorded a personal-best jump of 44-08 to finish second in the triple jump … Grand Canyon's Andrew Okonkwo jumped a WAC-best of 2.02 meters in the high jump to tie for second … Kansas City's Perry Adderley placed sixth out of 22 competitors with a 14.93 meter shot put throw and an eighth-place finish for a personal best of 14.44 meters in the weight throw … Utah Valley's Albert MacArthur claimed two first-place finishes, one in the triple jump with a 14.87 meter jump and the other in the long jump with a 6.94 jump.
