DENVER - Utah Valley's Lexi Shaw and NM State's Hannah Smith have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 22-28.
Shaw, a senior from Ladera Ranch, Calif., picked up a victory in the 400 meters this past weekend at the Weber State Indoor Invitational. With her performance, Shaw moved into third all-time on Utah Valley's 400-meter record chart with a time of 56.63 seconds. She also helped the UVU women's 4x400 relay squad finish second at the meet, running a time of 3:54.01.
Smith, a junior from Whitby, Ontario, Canada, claimed third for a personal and WAC-best in the triple jump this past weekend. She shifts to third all-time at NM State with a mark of 12.01. Smith also posted a season-best in the long jump with a jump of 5.26 meters.
Other track nominees: Chicago State's Jocindra Glee claimed a first-place finish in the 400-meters with a time of 57.80 and a second-place finish in the 200-meters with a time of 25.68 … Grand Canyon's Paige Hildebrandt recorded a personal-best and a WAC second-best with an altitude adjustment of 4:59.88 in the mile … Kansas City's Katherine Hanners won the one-mile run in 5:16.36 … NM State's Tanisha Scott recorded a personal-best in the 60-meter dash (7.57) and in the 200 meters (24.61), while also posting a season-best in the 4x400 (3:58.44) … UT Rio Grande Valley's Idatonye Cheetham-West recorded a school record of 7.66 in the 60-meter dash.
Other field nominees: Chicago State's Shedella Smith threw a personal-best of 42-8.25 in the shot put … Grand Canyon's Jennifer Johnson placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.92 … Kansas City's Daiwa Emmert competed in her first pentathlon of the season and ranks first in the WAC with a converted score of 3159 … Utah Valley's Olivia Neal produced a 3.51 mark in the pole vault, good for third in school history.
