DENVER -Grand Canyon's Vinnie Murphy has been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Golfers of the Week for Jan. 24 through Jan. 30.
Murphy, a senior from Edgewood, Wash. (Puyallup HS), battled a windy first day at Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif. en route to a sixth place finish at the Waves Challenge, hosted by Pepperdine. The Lopes leader continued to get better on the tournament, shooting a 4-over-par 76 in round one and following that up with rounds of 75 and 73 to earn the top-10 finish among 78 total golfers with an 8-over-par 224. As a team, GCU finished in fourth place with a 57-over-pay 921, besting WAC foes UT Rio Grande Valley and Seattle U.
