DENVER - NM State senior forward Jemerrio Jones has been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 1-7. This is his first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor.
The Memphis, Tenn. native finished with posted his 10th double-double of the year in NM State's 97-60 victory at Chicago State to open WAC play. He finished with 18 points on 56 percent shooting to go along with 16 rebounds. He also dished out five assists. Jones leads the WAC and is tied for seventh nationally with 10 double-doubles, ranks seventh in total rebounds (182), ninth in rebounds per game (11.4), 10th in offensive rebounds per game (3.88) and 17th in defensive rebounds per game (7.50).
Other nominees included: Fred Sims Jr. of Chicago State finished with 20 points and nine rebounds ... Grand Canyon's Oscar Frayer finished with 18 points on 57 percent shooting and seven rebounds in a win at Seattle U ... Broderick Robinson of Kansas City averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals as the Roos went 1-1 on the week ... Seattle U's Jordan Hill scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed five rebounds in a loss to Grand Canyon ... Nick Dixon of UT Rio Grande Valley averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds in a pair of wins ... Utah Valley's Jake Toolson finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and a steal in a win over CSU Bakersfield.
