WAC Men's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – California Baptist's Brandon Schuster and Wyoming's Ryan Russi have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 24-30.
Schuster, a junior from Vaoala, Samoa, won five events in two duals throughout the week. He won the 100 breaststroke (56.41) and 500 freestyle (4:37.08) against Pomona-Pitzer. He followed with a win in the 200 freestyle (1:39.47), 500 freestyle (4:36.19), and 200 individual medley (1:51.90) against CSU Bakersfield. He currently holds the best time in the WAC in the 200 freestyle. Schuster has the second-best time in the WAC in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 and 400 individual medleys.
Russi, a senior from Murrieta, Calif., earned 18 points in a dual meet against Denver. He finished first in both dives with a score of 273.23 in the 1-meter and 303.83 in the 3-meter. He finished at least 60 points better than the runner-up in both dives.
Other swimmer nominee: Kris Rogic of CSU Bakersfield finished top two in four events including first in the 100 and 200 backstroke… Wyoming's David Murphy won the 50-yard freestyle and finished top three in three other events.
Other diver nominee: California Baptist's Zane Freeman earned four top-two finishes in duals against Pomona-Pitzer and CSU Bakersfield.
