DENVER - Seattle U's Alexis Montgomery has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 5 through Feb. 11. It's the second straight player of the week honor for Montgomery and the fifth this season.
Montgomery, a senior forward from Beaverton, Ore. (Beaverton HS), recorded the first triple-double in Seattle U's Division I era and the fifth in the history of WAC women's basketball on Thursday against Kansas City. After finishing just shy of the feat the week prior, she put up 14 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists to become the first WAC women's basketball player since 2006 to put together a triple-double. She followed that up with 13 points, 17 rebounds and six assists in a win over Chicago State on Saturday.
Other nominees included: CSU Bakersfield's Aja Williams averaged 11.5 ppg and 3.5 rpg as the ‘Runners took over possession of first place with home wins over NM State and UT Rio Grande Valley … Chicago State's Phylicia Johnson scored 20 points, including five three-pointers, to lead the Cougars to an 84-74 win at Utah Valley … Grand Canyon's Jessica Gajewski scored 17.5 ppg to help the Lopes earn home wins over UT Rio Grande Valley and NM State … Kansas City's Kristen Moore averaged 15.0 ppg and 6.5 rpg in a pair of road losses … Utah Valley's Mariah Seals averaged 8.5 assists per game to go with 17.5 points per game as the Wolverines went 1-1 on the week.
