DENVER- The Western Athletic Conference announced its men's and women's Swimming and Diving Pre-Championship Coaches Polls, as voted on by the six men's head coaches and the seven women's head coaches in the league. Wyoming was selected as the favorite to win the men's championship and reigning champion Northern Arizona was selected to win it again for the women this year.
On the men's side, Wyoming was picked as the favorite with four first place votes and 24 points overall. Last year's champion Air Force was chosen to finish second with 19 points and one first place vote. Getting the final first place vote was Grand Canyon as they rounded out with 18 points. UNLV received 15 points for fourth place, followed by CSU Bakersfield with nine points. Seattle U rounds out the men's poll with five points.
For the women, Northern Arizona was picked as the favorite to with the conference championship for their fifth consecutive title as they received six first place votes and ended with 36 points. NM State received second with 29 points and one first place vote. Grand Canyon ended the poll with 26 points predicting a third place finish. Fifth place goes to Idaho with 23 points, followed by Northern Colorado with 16 points. CSU Bakersfield with 11 points and Seattle U with six points round out the poll with a sixth and seventh place prediction.
The 2018 Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving championships will take place at the CRWC Natatorium in Houston, Texas this Wednesday-Saturday, February 21-24.
