DENVER- The Western Athletic CÂonference announced its men's and women's indoor track and field Pre-Championship Coaches Polls, as voted on by the six men's head coaches and eight women's head coaches in the league. Grand Canyon was selected as the favorite to win both the men's and women's championship for the third year in a row.
On the men's side, Grand Canyon was picked as the favorite with four first place votes and 24 points overall. Utah Valley is predicted to finish second with 21 points and two first place votes. Kansas City follows the Wolverines with 18 points, followed by UT Rio Grande Valley with 12 points. The fifth spot goes to Seattle U with nine points and Chicago State rounds out the men's poll with five points.
Grand Canyon was also picked as the favorite on the women's side. The Lopes received five first place votes and 47 points overall. In second is Utah Valley with 44 points and three first place votes. NM State is predicted to finish third as they received 36 points, followed by Kansas City with 32 points. Fifth and sixth positions were claimed by UT Rio Grande Valley with 25 points and CSU Bakersfield with 14 points. There was a tie for the seventh spot at 13 points each for Chicago State and Seattle U.
The 2018 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field championships will take place at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho this Thursday-Saturday, February 23-25.
