GRAND CANYON'S SMITH, AGUILAR-BEAUCAGE NAMED WAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Shea Smith and
Brianna Aguilar-Beaucage have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 19-25. This is the first honor of the season and third of her career for Smith and the first honor of the season and second of her career for Aguilar-Beaucage.
Smith, a junior shortstop from Waddell, Ariz., hit .522 over seven games last week with three doubles, two triples and one home run. Smith also walked five times and drove in eight runs. In the team's 7-6 loss to then-No. 4 UCLA last Monday, she was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. In the GCU Purple Classic over the weekend, Smith hit the first inside-the-park home run as well as a pair of triples to help the Lopes tally 60 runs over six victories during the tournament. For the week, she posted a .957 slugging percentage and a .607 on-base percentage.
Aguilar-Beaucage, a sophomore right-hander from Tucson, Ariz., went 3-1 with a 2.67 ERA over 21.0 innings pitched last week, with her only loss coming to the No. 4 Bruins. In her other three appearances, she allowed just two runs and two walks over 54 batters faced. For the week, she struck out 12 and walked four.

UVU BREAKS PROGRAM RECORDS AGAINST SOUTHERN UTAH
Utah Valley's offense exploded in a 14-1 victory over in-state foe Southern Utah on Feb. 25 in St. George, Utah. The Wolverines tallied an impressive 14 hits on their way to scoring 14 runs against the Thunderbirds. UVU scored a school-record 13 first-inning runs, which included sending 18 batters to the plate that frame. The output was the most runs UVU has scored since March 14, 2017, when it defeated Maine, 14-3, at Wolverine Field. The 18 batters in the inning was also single-inning school record.
