DENVER - Seattle U's Alexis Montgomery has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 29 through Feb. 4.
Montgomery, a senior forward from Beaverton, Ore. (Beaverton HS), finished one rebound shy of a triple-double and hit the game-winning shot in the Redhawks' 77-75 win at Utah Valley. She finished the game with 15 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season and her first mixing points and assists. Her biggest basket came with 1.6 seconds left, nailing a jumper from the right elbow to secure the win for Seattle U. She also added three blocks and an assist in the win. It is the fourth player of the week honor for Montgomery this season, who was also named WAC Preseason Player of the Year.
Other nominees included: CSU Bakersfield's Alize' Lofton averaged 13.5 ppg on .588 shooting as the ‘Runners earned wins on the road at Chicago State and Kansas City … Grand Canyon's Jessica Gajewski averaged 20.5 ppg as the Lopes lost in overtime at Kansas City before bouncing back for a win at Chicago State … NM State's Zaire Williams score 17 points and dished out 11 assists in the Aggies' 79-77 overtime win at UT Rio Grande Valley … UT Rio Grande Valley's Laura Van Tilburg scored a career-high 23 points as the Vaqueros nearly knocked off NM State before falling 79-77 in overtime … Utah Valley's Jordan Holland scored a career-high 20 points with nine rebounds as the Wolverines dropped a close game at home to Seattle U.
